# RIFT > RIFT is a free, MIT-licensed, open-source AI coding agent that runs in the terminal. You describe a change in plain English; it edits your code, then runs the project's own tests, typechecker and linter and reports the real results, and it checks its own summary against the git diff. It is a fork of OpenCode, works with many model providers (Claude, GPT, Gemini, Llama, Mistral, DeepSeek, local models through Ollama) and runs on macOS, Linux and Windows. RIFT is not affiliated with or endorsed by the OpenCode team. Most of the codebase is OpenCode's work. ## Start here - [README](https://github.com/Datum-Collective/RIFT-coding-agent/blob/main/README.md): what RIFT does, install commands, usage, configuration, FAQ - [Releases](https://github.com/Datum-Collective/RIFT-coding-agent/releases): prebuilt binaries (31 to 47 MB) for macOS, Linux and Windows - [Changelog](https://github.com/Datum-Collective/RIFT-coding-agent/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md): what changed in each version ## Key facts - Install on macOS, Linux, WSL or Git Bash: `curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Datum-Collective/RIFT-coding-agent/main/opencode/install | bash` - Install on Windows: `irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Datum-Collective/RIFT-coding-agent/main/opencode/install.ps1 | iex` - Start it with `rift` inside a project; `rift run "task"` runs non-interactively for scripts and CI. - Verification: after edits RIFT runs the project's test, typecheck, lint, go test, cargo check or pytest scripts. A check that could not run is reported as not run, never as passed. - Browser checks: for UI work it drives a real browser and reports console errors. - MCP: reads `.mcp.json`, `~/.rift/mcp.json` and the `mcp` key in `rift.json`; asks before running a project's servers. - Sharing: `/share` saves a session as a secret Gist on the user's own GitHub account and returns a viewer link. - The releases are terminal-only (no web UI or desktop app). - License: MIT. ## Optional - [Source code](https://github.com/Datum-Collective/RIFT-coding-agent) - [Design notes and research](https://github.com/Datum-Collective/RIFT-coding-agent/tree/main/docs) - [Branching and contributing](https://github.com/Datum-Collective/RIFT-coding-agent/blob/main/docs/branching.md) - [OpenCode, the project RIFT is built on](https://github.com/anomalyco/opencode)
